Reviewing the Unrated Version!
A superior remake that just works on every level!
A ravenous revenge tale that had me cheering for the parents when they went after the psychos with the wrath and fury of a mother bear protecting her cub!
I cringed during the original 1972 film only because I found the acting skills and dialogue deplorable! The remake however earned all of its cringes legitimately via scenes that were so graphic and disturbing it'll make you wanna rip your eyes right out of their sockets!
Top notch performances by Sara Paxton, Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Garret Dillahunt, Spencer Treat Clark and Aaron Paul took this film to a whole new level of wicked goodness!

one of the best horror remakes i've ever seen.
i guess you could say it was...mind blowing...

It almost feels blasphemous to admit that a film obtains the power to overshadow something made by one of the great masters of horror, but in his defence, Wes Craven was still finding his feet as a filmmaker at the time, needless to say, his future body of work contained a much higher percentage of successes than it did failings.
Made on a minimal budget, fuelled by anti-Vietnam protests and influenced by the work of Ingmar Bergman, Craven's The Last House On The Left (1972) was the exploitation flick the world wasn't ready for, which included scenes of rape and violence depicted so realistically for cinema at the time, it was quickly solidified as one of the great video nasties…

Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.
Sigh, this is a hard one for me to review. It comes with a lot of baggage.
First, let me just say I think I like this more than the original. It is both more brutal (though no one get's orally de-dongled) and yet a little more hopeful as Justin gets a little of a redemption arc and Mari gets to survive.
Also I don't care for the 70s.
So this is the movie that triggered my Ex. As I pulled this movie out of the box of movies I am slowing digging through I kind of had to brace myself, try and look at this without the baggage.
But the scene where Mari is raped by Krug will always remind me of my ex's panic attack.
On the shelf with you and I am never watching this movie again.

The Last House On The Left is a brutal thriller that enjoys too much violence it's shocking. The plot is stretched to give characters as much room for development but there were sequences when torture is unnecessary. Acting wise, the villains are pure evil scary, and Sara Paxton delivered a vulnerable, wounded, scared portrayal that to be honest I wasn't expecting she could deliver. All in all, too much violence left this film unsavory.

A stale remake.
She didn't bite his cock off.
LOSE A STAR!!!
Although the head in the microwave was a rather nifty touch.
HALF A STAR ADDED.

i think last house on the left is the ugly bitch as far as rape revenge movies go because they cant even let the raped girl take out her own revenge but its okay this was still epic

Remakes. The bane of originality, the blight on new ideas. Speaking in generalities, these recycling's of used concepts are vilified, and given the track record of the majority, it's really no wonder. When they aren't vastly inferior and highly obvious cash-ins, then they're pointless replicas. But, as strange as it sounds, there are very, very rare exceptions. Though it happens as often as a month of Sundays, there are actually – wait for it – good remakes.
Take The Last House on the Left, for instance, a remake of a film of the same name…

I had the same problem with this that I had with I Spit on Your Grave and other similarly exploitative revenge thrillers, which is the fact that we're forced to sit through extra-prolonged rape scenes so that the moment in which the villains are eventually killed is more satisfying. Well, sure, seeing shitty people get their brains splattered across the room in horror flicks is satisfying, to an extent. It doesn't erase the fact that I had to sit through an extra-prolonged and exploitative rape scene. Narratively, it doesn't bring anything to the table, nor is the film even remotely interested in exploring the horror and psychological effects of such a heinous crime. It's there for shock value alone, and it's done in bad taste.

Original + Remake 2/2

If you read my review of Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left, you know I dislike it because of some of it's use of slapstick humor and that stupid music. But while it's not Craven's worst, I respect it for what it was. But I love the remake a lot more than the original, and that's fucking saying something right there!
The Last House on the Left is a remake of the original film from Wes Craven and it follows a couple let a gang of strangers take refuge at a couple's vacation home during a thunderstorm. Suddenly, they find out the people they let in attacked their daughter, so the parents plan a brutal payback on them.…

Spooktober 2018: #10
lemme know if the original is better/worth a watch cause i might check that out too. chose to go with this one first cause netflix let it fall into my lap readily available.gorgeous 35mm film, a grainy love letter to mother nature and a tale of violence. takes some time at the beginning to set up the protagonists and immediately fell for the beautiful Mari (played passionately by Sarah Paxton). definitely did not make the horrific events following her and her friend's encounter with an escaped criminal and his equally murderous relatives go any easier on me DAYUM.
neither saw the torture coming nor could i…
