How to factory reset your Google Pixel phone

Recommended: Use the Update and Software Repair tool (Pixel 3 & later)

We recommend you use the Update and Software Repair tool. The Update and Software Repair tool offers these benefits over a normal factory reset:

  • You might not have to back up your phone before the factory reset. Other factory reset options always require you to back up, delete, and restore your phone's data.
  • The tool adds the most recent version of Android to your phone. Other factory reset options restore the version of Android that came with your phone, which might not be the most recent version.

Important: Before you use the Update and Software Repair tool, you must have a computer and a USB cord that can connect to your phone.

  1. Connect your phone to a computer with a USB cord.
  2. Go to https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
